Christine at the Crossroads

US 2014
W/D: Ernie and Heather Smith

Finally surrendering to her affection for another woman, Christine has to cope with the consequences of her life-long lie.

The composition revolves around a single piano note, C, which is also the first letter in the main character´s name. The harmonic context of this note is always shifting, illustrating Christine´s indecision. Additional tension is induced by employing the baroque technique of the "cross motif", equidistant interval settings that allow a controlled level of dissonance. As the contacts of the female protagonists occur over a cup of coffee mostly, the music features a ceramic and a paper cup for percussion.
